Parent Information

VISITATION

  1. ONLY parent(s)/guardian(s) or spouse may visit with juvenile in detention. Other family members, including any under 18, will not be allowed to visit unless approved in advance by Caseworker, Assistant Director, and/or Director of the JDC. Attorneys, Clergy, Law Enforcement, Community Corrections Agents and professional counselors may make arrangements to visit at any reasonable time.
  2. VISITING HOURS: Visitors may visit for (1) hour on visiting days.
    • Tuesday and Thursday: 3:30 pm to 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm
    • Saturday and Sunday: 10:00 am to 11:30 am and 12:30 pm to 6:00 pm
  3. When a parent arrives at the Center to visit their child, all coats and personal belongings are secured in a locker in the waiting area. No weapons are allowed in the building. All visitors will sign in by completing a Visitor Slip documenting the date and time of arrival. This form is given to the staff member at intake. All items brought into the Center by visitors for a child in detention are given to staff upon entry. Visitors are subject to search and seizure.
  4. No visitors under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol are allowed in the building.

PHONE CALLS

  1. Juveniles are allowed to complete up to two phone calls per week, with each call allowed to last up to ten (10) minutes.
  2. Days the juveniles are allowed to call out are:
    • Last name A – J: Monday and Thursday between 3:30 pm to 9:00 pm.
    • Last name K – Z: Tuesday and Friday between 3:30 pm to 9:00 pm.

    If a juvenile does not receive a visit during the weekend’s visitation, the shift supervisor may allow the juvenile to make an additional phone call on Sunday evening.

  3. Collect phone calls are not accepted by the Juvenile Detention Center.

MAIL

  1. The juvenile Detention Center will provide postage for three letters per week for each child. Parents are to provide stamps if they want their child to send additional letters.
  2. All letters to and from juveniles in detention must go through the US Postal Service.

CLOTHING / PERSONAL ITEMS

  1. All juveniles in detention shall wear JDC uniforms. *Tennis Shoes are required for safety in the gym.
  2. Laundry will be done at the Juvenile Detention Center.
  3. The Juvenile Detention Center provides the following:
    • Toothbrush/paste
    • Comb
    • Deodorant
    • Pillow
    • Soap
    • Undergarments
    • Socks
    • Towel
    • Pillow case
    • 2 blankets
    • Razor
    • Shampoo
    • Lotion
    • 2 bed sheets
    • Juvenile Guide Book
  • 1 pair athletic shoes (if juvenile does not have their own).

NO Personal toothbrush or personal toiletry articles are accepted unless medically necessary or by doctor’s order.

PLACEMENT

  1. Juveniles going to placement in a state correctional facility through the Department of Corrections are allowed to take limited items. If you have questions regarding what is authorized, please contact the Department of Corrections.

MISCELLANEOUS

  1. A caseworker is assigned to a juvenile within 24 hours of a Temporary Custody Hearing or Court-Ordered Detention, except on weekends or holidays.
  2. Only caseworkers may give out information on a juvenile in detention. If you have questions regarding your child, please call the Juvenile Detention Center (367-4313) or schedule an appointment with the caseworker.
  3. All tobacco products are prohibited at the Juvenile Detention Center.
  4. All personal property not necessary while detained shall be returned to the parent(s) following the Temporary Custody Hearing.
  5. Juveniles are allowed to receive facility and age appropriate reading materials and up to two photos. No items with staples and no spiral notebooks are accepted.
