The Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office Patrol Services is made up of

The Patrol Division, a team of dedicated professionals, has an authorized strength of 40 Deputy Sheriffs; 8 Sergeants and 32 Deputy Sheriffs currently provide law enforcement and other community services from the Law Enforcement Center at 320 W 4th Street, Sioux Falls, SD.
The Sheriff's Office provides comprehensive 24/7 law enforcement service to Minnehaha County. Deputies in the Patrol Division respond to over 23,000 yearly calls for service, which include crimes against property, assaults, domestic violence incidents, and other crimes against people. Deputies maintain a visible law enforcement presence, serve arrest warrants, and serve civil papers. They also respond to accidents and medical emergencies, and many deputies are certified as EMTs, ensuring a wide range of services to the community.
In 2026, the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office continues to provide high‑quality, professional law enforcement services to the citizens of Minnehaha County while also supporting eight contracted communities, the Sioux Falls Airport, Southeast Technical College, and the South Dakota Air National Guard. We remain grateful for the opportunity to serve our residents each day and value the consistent support we receive from the community. Our current staffing levels remain strong and continue to meet the demands of our contractual obligations and the volume of calls for service across the county. We are actively investing in new tools and systems that increase deputy efficiency and enhance daily operations.
In keeping with the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office philosophy of Community Policing, deputies actively identify community issues and facilitate community involvement in developing solutions. Most deputies are assigned to specific areas to encourage familiarity with the municipalities and residents. Deputies attend many special events in the communities throughout the year, fostering a sense of community and engagement.
